The driver of a vehicle has been charged after a fatal accident in Tilden Township on March 12, township police said.
The driver, Kyle Rehrig, 18, of Mohrsville, was charged on Sept. 25 after a six-month investigation into the accident on Hex Highway near Walnut Road. Taylor Seitzinger, 18, of Shoemakersville, died as a result of the accident, on March 19. She was pronounced dead by Dr. Michelle Strong at Reading Hospital.
In the accident, a vehicle driven by Rehrig traveled up an embankment and turned onto its roof, police said. Rehrig, Seitzinger, and another passenger, Nicole Wessner, 17, were ejected from the vehicle, police said.
Seitzinger was trapped underneath the vehicle, and emergency personnel, assisted by six citizens, lifted the vehicle off her, police said. Two of the citizens were William Readinger Sr., 48, and his son Zachary, 17, both of Hamburg.
Police said none of the occupants were wearing seatbelts.
Rehrig was charged with involuntary manslaughter, DUI while being a minor under the age of 21 (with a blood alcohol content of 0.03 percent), recklessly endangering another person, driving vehicle at safe speed (59 mph in a 45 mph zone), driving on roadways laned for traffic, failure to wear a restraint system, reckless driving, and possession of an alcoholic beverage under the age of 21.
Tilden police, Berks County Detectives Forensic Services Unit, state police, and the Berks County Coroner’s Office were involved in the investigation.
