Egg goons attack home
Goons fired eggs at a residence on West Main Avenue in Jackson Township on July 27, state police at Jonestown said.
The victim is Franklin Stoudt, 73, state police said.

Knuckleheads blow up mailbox
Bozos blew up a mailbox on Kohler Hill Road in Windsor Township on July 25, state police at Hamburg said.
The debris from the explosion struck the victim’s residence, damaging the siding, state police said.
The victim is Linda Martis, 50, state police said.

Lowlifes scratch vehicle
Slugs scratched the driver’s side of a vehicle with a sharp object in a church parking lot on Old 22 in Upper Tulpehocken Township on July 25, state police at Hamburg said.
The victim is Denise Himmelberger, 50, of Bernville.

Accident sends woman to hosp
A 63-year-old Lebanon woman was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital after an accident on Pine Grove Street in Bethel Township, Lebanon County, on July 25, state police at Jonestown said.
Vehicles driven by Betty Shirk, 61, of Fredericksburg, and Mary Weiant were involved in the accident, state police said.
Weiant was injured and taken to the hospital, state police said.

Vehicle collide in Greenwich Twp.
A truck driven by Michael Williamson, 32, of Apalachin, N.Y., and a vehicle driven by George Gardner, 61, of Leesport, were involved in the accident on Route 737 in Greenwich Township on July 23, state police at Hamburg said.
Gardner suffered a minor injury, state police said.

Police: Man had drug paraphernalia
A 25-year-old Annville man was found in possession of drug paraphernalia after being taken into custody at the Bunker Hill Fire Company in Swatara Township, Lebanon County, on July 24, state police at Jonestown said.
State police said Brett Shuey had numerous warrants for his arrest, and during a search, he was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia.

Woman accused of public drunkenness
Lacy Brookens, 27, of Fayetteville, was charged with disorderly conduct and public drunkenness after an incident in the Hollywood Casino at Penn National on July 25, state police said.
Brookens was allegedly intoxicated and told to leave the casino, state police said.
Brookens then became uncooperative and disrespectful toward troopers and casino personnel, state police said.

Police: 1 arrested
for DUI during checkpoint

One motorist was arrested for DUI during a sobriety checkpoint on Route 61 in Perry Township between July 24 and 25, state police at Hamburg said.
Two individuals were taken into custody for outstanding warrants, state police said.
State police said troopers also handed out six citations and six warnings.

Man’s vehicle strikes street sign
A vehicle slammed into a street sign after trying to avoid hitting another vehicle on Route 22 at Blue Mountain Road in Bethel Township, Lebanon County on July 24, state police at Jonestown said.
A vehicle driven by Joshua Schucker, 32, of Newmanstown, swerved to miss a vehicle driven by Margaret Light, 88, of Bethel, state police said.
Schucker’s vehicle went off the road and barreled into the sign, state police said.
Nobody was injured, and Schucker’s vehicle wasn’t drivable, state police said.

Vehicles crack up in Heidelberg Twp.
Vehicles driven by Luke Wise, 82, of Myerstown, and Andrew Carpenter, 19, of Newmanstown, were involved in an accident on Route 501 in Heidelberg Township, Lebanon County, on July 24, township police said.
Wise was cited for not having his vehicle under control, police said.

Teen’s vehicle hits rock, poles
A 17-year-old juvenile’s vehicle hit a large rock and several utility poles on Camp Strauss Road in Bethel Township, Lebanon County, on July 23, state police at Jonestown said.
The teen lost control of the vehicle while on a left curve before hitting the rock and poles that were lying on the ground, state police said.
Nobody was injured.

Police: Inmate slugs inmate
An inmate at the Lebanon County Correctional Facility allegedly punched another inmate on July 1, state police at Jonestown said.
Joemil Martinez, 26, was cited for harassment, and the victim is Ray Henry, 20, state police said.

Lowlifes steal vase from gravesite
Creepy loses swiped a brass memorial urn/flower vase from the gravesite of the victim’s relative at the Schuylkill Memorial Park in North Manheim Township, state police at Schuylkill Haven said.
The victim is Joanne Uckert, 76, of Schuylkill Haven, state police said.

Police: Man punched woman in face
A 31-year-old man allegedly grabbed a 23-year-old woman by the neck, pushed her over a chair and punched her in the face in Caernarvon Township, Lancaster County, on July 21, state police at Ephrata said.
Raymond Orsini III, 31, then threw a chair at the victim’s car, state police said.
Orsini was charged with harassment and criminal mischief, state police said.

Those days are over. As the acquisition of left-handed starter Cliff Lee demonstrates, the "new" Phillies are willing to do what it takes to win championships.
All right, they didn’t get their No. 1 target. But once they determined the asking price for Toronto ace Roy Halladay was too high, the Phillies turned to their No. 2 target: Cliff Lee.

STOP GOV. 'SPENDELL'

Republican state senators should be applauded for their efforts to restore fiscal sanity to Pennsylvania. They have united in opposition to Gov. Edward Rendell’s proposed personal income tax increase to balance the budget. Instead of backing a tax increase, they are proposing to balance the budget by reducing spending. This approach is what most states, including our own, should be doing.
The senators are against a tax increase because of its effect on the economy during a recession and on the general principle that the people have a right to use their own money as they see fit. The Democrats, including Rendell, are criticizing the Republicans for withholding money from vital state services, including public education. As a result of the budget impasse, state employees have not been paid for their work.
